On Tuesday,
September 12, 2006, Walter Williams spoke at The
Lincoln Institute Breakfast
Forum
at the University Club in
Washington, D.C. For 28
years, Walter Williams has helped The Lincoln Institute
promote conservative ideas in the black community, mentor
black conservatives, and make the conservative dream of
unlimited opportunity and personal freedom a reality – not
just in the black community but for all Americans.
Lincoln Institute President Jay Parker reminisces about the
connection between Walter Williams and the creation of The
Lincoln Institute:
It all
started with Walter Williams. In 1978 Walter was a young
economist teaching at Temple University in my hometown of
Philadelphia, and I offered to introduce him to the leading
conservatives in Washington, D.C.
After
a few appointments, I decided it would be much easier and
faster to host a reception for Walter in my home and invite
a large number of conservative leaders rather than meeting
with them one at a time.
So
about 60 leading conservatives came to my home and met
Walter. My efforts to introduce Walter to the conservative
community back in 1978 led to the creation of the Lincoln
Institute. Walter is now one of the most well-known and
well-respected free market economists in the nation.
Millions hear him guest-host Rush Limbaugh’s radio show and
read his popular newspaper column.
